Elderberry Syrup
Elderberry Syrup
Elderberry Syrup is excellent for supporting the immune system. It helps to keep the immune system strong making it good to take for flu, colds, and viruses. Take 1 spoonful daily as a preventative or take 1-2 spoonful’s 3-6 times a day at the first sign of illness to lessen the length of time being sick and the severity.
Elderberries stop the virus from replicating in the body because it prevents it from being able to cross the cell wall. There have been studies done (Click Here) about it being used for strep throat and also in its ability to cut down the length of an illness by at least half. I add cinnamon because it has anti-viral properties and is also good for flus and colds.
Made with organic elderberries, organic ceylon cinnamon stick, filtered water, our own raw honey or local raw honey, organic gluten free alcohol.
I recommend refrigeration. Will last for the whole winter season and even into the next year if you don’t finish it all. I have had mine be good for 2 years when kept in the frig.
Safe to give to children over the age of 1. Please cut children dose in half to that of an adults.
Elderberry (Sambucus Nigra L.) is native to Europe, Asia, Africa, and North America has been used since the time of Hippocrates. Elder is a tree that prefers to grow in damp conditions as it likes its “feet” (roots) to be wet. It can grow 30 feet tall in the right conditions. In the country, you will see it a lot of times growing along the back roads in culverts.
There are over 20 different species with similar chemical constitutes. Most are used interchangeably for medicinal purposes. Elderflower and elderberries are both commonly used for colds, flus, and respiratory infections due to their antiviral and diaphoretic properties. Both are high in vitamin C and elderberries are also high in antioxidants, vitamin A, and Iron.
By taking elderberry at the onset of cold or flu symptoms it can reduce the duration as it prevents the cells from being able to multiply thus cutting down on the duration of the illness - in some cases by up to 50%. By taking 1-2 tablespoons of elderberry daily it acts as a preventative and can reduce the chances of getting sick. Its anti-inflammatory and expectorant properties make it beneficial to lower respiratory viral infections and sinusitis as it helps with drainage and nasal congestion and helps to reduce inflammation in the sinus cavity. Studies have shown that it also has antimicrobial properties against gram-positive bacteria streptococcus.
Other parts of the elder plant have been used as herbal medicines, but they are considered highly toxic due to containing cyanide-inducing glycosides which can cause a toxic buildup of cyanide in the body – (it is recommended they only be used by a trained herbalist). The raw berries also contain these same cyanide-inducing glycosides, and it is not recommended to consume them raw as they may cause nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. (If you have ever eaten some of the raw berries you may get a belly ache afterwards and that is why.) Through the heating process, either by cooking or drying, the cyanide is removed. This is what makes elderberry syrup so desirable as it has been cooked and is easily consumable. Another great way to get the benefits of elderberry are by consuming it blended in teas as the berries have been dried so they are safe to consume.

This is a dietary supplement.
For herbal tinctures that are alcohol based you can place a small amount in a cup and put a small amount of boiling water over it, the alcohol with then evaporate leaving you with the healing properties of the tincture still just minus the alcohol.
I recommend that with all the herbal tinctures you start of small in dosing and work your way up to recommended dosage. Some people only need a small amount to notice a difference.
